Gardening by the moon: what’s the evidence?

Questions and answers

How does the calendar work?

Our sources say how many weeks before or after the last frost each job is due. We put in the frost date for your area. Tender plants only go outside once there is no frost in 9 out of 10 years.

Why is there no moon calendar?

We found no evidence for sowing by the moon. We only use frost dates and sources. The moon phases are listed as tradition on our page “Gardening by the moon: what’s the evidence?”.

Does it work for a greenhouse?

No. The dates are for growing outdoors. Under glass or fleece, many things can start earlier.
