How many plants fit in your bed?
Pick a plant and enter the size. We work it out on a grid of 30 cm squares and in rows, with the spacing from our sources.

What do you want to plant?
How we work it out
Square foot mode: we divide the bed into squares of 30 × 30 cm. How many plants fit in a square comes from square foot gardening sources. Large plants need several squares, a tomato for example 2 × 2.
Rows: rows run lengthways. Each is as wide as the row spacing, and within the row the plants stand at plant spacing. Both values come from expert sources; for ranges we use the smaller one.
If no source gives a value, we do not calculate with it, we tell you.
Questions and answers
Why two results?
In square foot mode plants stand closer than in classic rows. Both are common, you decide.
Does it work for raised beds?
